Working with governments and businesses to create a kinder, more sustainable food system
What they do
Dansk Vegetarisk Forening (DVF) makes it easier for people to access foods that are kinder to animals and the planet by creating practical solutions through partnerships and strategic advocacy. This small but mighty organization delivers remarkable results by targeting the institutions and companies that shape what ends up on our plates.

Policy advocacy: DVF pushes for sustainable agricultural reforms and increased funding for the plant-based transition.
Legal action: They spearheads strategic lawsuits that challenge corporate greenwashing and defend consumer rights to protect the integrity of what ends up on people’s plates.
Access to plant-based options: By helping dozens of food companies develop and expand plant-based options, DVF gives people more choice and agency over their impact on farmed animals and the planet.
Why support them
DVF is changing the system: Rather than focusing solely on individual choices, DVF transforms the institutions and policies that shape our food system. Their approach addresses factory farming at its roots, creating a lasting impact that helps millions of farmed animals.
A top ‘investment’ for animals: Every dollar donated to DVF's policy work has influenced approximately $68 in government funding toward plant-based foods — a massive multiplier that allows your contribution to have a more significant impact.
Proven track record: With successes ranging from groundbreaking legal victories to transforming culinary education, DVF has demonstrated they can effectively create change across multiple fronts in our outdated food system.

1. Taking on industry giants—and winning
In a landmark victory, DVF challenged one of Europe's largest pork producers, Danish Crown…and won. When the company made misleading environmental claims about its pork products, DVF took the food giant to court, proved it had been greenwashing, and forced the company to abandon its deceptive marketing practices. This David vs. Goliath victory demonstrates how effective legal action can hold even the largest corporations accountable and protect consumers from false claims about animal products.
2. Building political consensus for a kinder food system
DVF brings together politicians from across the political spectrum to support a more sustainable and animal-friendly food system. Rather than being adversarial, they host networking evenings, organize compelling seminars, and publish timely surveys to influence politicians during elections. This smart approach has allowed DVF to create rare cross-party agreements on reducing factory farming and increasing plant-based options. As a result, a remarkable $100 million in government funding has gone to support plant-based initiatives and new policies that make it easier for everyone to choose foods that are better for animals.
3. Helping businesses offer better food choices
By working directly with food producers and distributors, DVF makes it easier for everyday shoppers to find animal-friendly options. They advise supermarkets to expand plant-based sections and help startups create delicious new alternatives to animal products. DVF’s annual supermarket awards create friendly competition among retailers to improve their plant-based offerings—something that directly benefits consumers while reducing demand for factory farming. Each year, DVF provides counseling to approximately 50 food businesses, helping them develop and expand products that are kinder to animals and the planet.
4. Empowering animal lovers to make an impact across the world
DVF isn't keeping their successful strategies to themselves. They actively share their winning playbook with animal advocates in other countries to help reduce farmed animal suffering around the world.
